estherghc: We decided to try the Taojiang Lu branch on a Sunday, arrived around 1.15pm. Quite nice ambience and decor, there was only 1 other table there at that time. We ordered several dishes, the hot and sour soup was disappointing - too bland, the only taste was sour. MaPo Tofu was very spicy and oily, nice taste but a little too heavy on the oil. Beancurd roll was very good, so were the spinach and stir-fried beans and black fungus. The main item we were waiting for the cumin ribs were a big let down. Firstly the dish did not look like the picture, second and most important was they were overcooked so was dry, chewy and lacking much meat. I think the best parts of the meal was the bottle of Lambrusco and the starters, the two mains were not wow and we can honestly say we have been there and may not be back...there are too many other outlets to try.

jendives: Went there yesterday, at the Plaza 66 one, on Nanjing lu. It was a little hard to find the place, we had to walk a little to find it, even if the walk was nice due to the good decor of the Plaza 66 mall. We were 5 to eat. We had a voucher, 150 rmb off for a max. of 300 rmb. We never heard about the place, just knew about it via Enjoy website. The decor is nice enough, very particular though; red walls painted with chinese clouds that shine goldly. Nice furnitures and tables sets. The waiting staff wast not smiling and the welcoming was not warm and nice, it was just not welcoming at all. For a Monday the place was empty, which was okay as we needed a quite atmosphere. I did not order the food, but at the end of the diner, I felt the bill very expansive for the amount of food given. Even the presentation of the food was not that beautiful and I felt like it came from an average Chinese restaurant menu. So the price is too high for what was actually given. The service was just ok, but for the price paid you expect it to be good, not just ok. The water used for the tea is tap water, which is really bad when you know how unhealthy is the tap water. Same for the soups we ordered (but the hot taste of it covered the tap water bad taste, so it wasn't too bad...). The music was nice enough, some old SH jazz and old Chinese traditional songs. All in all, the place is trying to make you pay for a unique Sichuan experience, it turned out to be an average Sichuan restaurant with just a nice decor and music, and an ok waiting staff that does not smile. All of this is not worth the price you would pay for it. Happily we had the voucher, but even after deduction of it, the price was still a little pain in the wallet... and the food was not remarkably tasting or good. I recommend it for a business diner that would require to show off a little, even for an expansive flirting date. Jendives
